Community Colleges May Have to Turn Away 400,000 students
This does not have to happen to the people of California.
If only our elected representatives
in California would roll-up their sleeves and work at ensuring college
is accessible and affordable instead they are prisoners of special
interests that hijack the future and kill the dreams of our next
generation. Pension reform and yes the tax extensions would do much to extend the educational opportunities
offered by the world renown California community colleges. Governor
Brown would much rather waste time with his promise for an election that
will cost the state millions of dollars instead of working with the democratic
legislature to push through a budget that can at least temporarily
buy some time until we have REAL political reform. The democratic party
in California fails genuine working people who DO NOT belong to a
public sector union. It is time for people to take social action and force the politicians to make the tough choices to balance our state budget in a fair and equitable approach that prepares Californians for the future.

For far to long many politicians pretend to have the great California education System in there best interest when they are running for office. But as always, once they are elected into office the promise of change falls to the waste side. Only the teachers and students to whom are truly affected from these cuts in our school budget, can make those whom promise real bring about the needed changes. Included in this pursuit should include the active actions of the surrounding communities, to help promote the demand for educational justice for our future generation of educated solars.

Thank you for your heartfelt reply to the failure of our elected officials to address the future of our society. Education is no longer an issue that can be taken for granted by us or politicians.

I agree with the article but I dont understand how they distribute the fund allocated fo college sometime the way we collect and distribute the tax money does not make since I think the voting public must learn the positions and there uses before they vote and maybe have alternative plans to drop If the economy changes during the fiscal year.

I think this is awful. Education is very important, without it where is our future headed. Students should never be turned away. There has to be another alternative.

Absolutely we need to take to the streets and demand that our politicians take any measure to fully fund education.

Colleges are getting more expensive and giving students less chances to keep going with school. Our elected representatives from California need to step up when it comes to college being more affordable.

I believe that with the direction that our education system is going I can see our futures and hope for success moving further away. I dont believe that our governer have our best interest in mind. Politicians make so many promises to those who fund their campaign that the bigger issues are put on the back burner.

Having an educated and positive society does not seem to be as important as providing a few corporations access to the state's money. One choice seems socialistic, the other is very capitalistic. In reality, by opting to favor one group above the other, the society as a whole is torn down. Having a large and uneducated/unskilled labor-force hurts us all. As it stands the community of Californians is impoverished.
